Iraq’s Ministry of Interior stated that specialized units tracked one of the suspects’ vehicles as it attempted to flee the scene. During the pursuit, the vehicle overturned, leading to the arrest of one suspect. Authorities said operations are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects and secure the journalist’s safe release.

The U.S. State Department confirmed it is aware of the situation involving an American journalist in Iraq. Officials also revealed that prior warnings had been issued regarding potential threats to her safety.

According to U.S. authorities, the detained suspect is believed to have links to Kata’ib Hezbollah, an Iran-aligned militia designated as a terrorist organization by the United States. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is reportedly coordinating efforts with Iraqi authorities to assist in the case.

The State Department reiterated its Level 4 travel advisory for Iraq, urging American citizens to avoid travel to the country and advising those currently there to leave immediately due to security risks.
