Sindh unveils Rs2000 biker fuel subsidy

Published on: April 3, 2026 3:31 PM

The Sindh government announced a Rs2,000 fuel subsidy for motorcycle owners on Friday, aiming to ease the impact of rising fuel prices. The decision follows a federal relief initiative introduced a day earlier. The subsidy targets daily commuters who rely on motorcycles for affordable transport.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah revealed the measure during a press conference in Karachi. He said the provincial government moved swiftly to support low-income riders. The initiative aligns with federal efforts to provide immediate relief to citizens affected by fuel hikes.

He acknowledged that recent increases in fuel prices forced the government to make difficult economic decisions. However, he emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable groups. The subsidy aims to reduce financial strain on households dependent on motorcycles for work and daily travel.

Moreover, officials expect the program to benefit a large number of commuters across Sindh. Motorcycles remain a primary mode of transport for many workers. Therefore, targeted cash support could help stabilize daily expenses and maintain mobility.

Meanwhile, public concern has grown as fuel prices continue to rise nationwide. Long queues at petrol stations reflect ongoing challenges faced by consumers. Authorities said further details on eligibility and distribution will be announced soon.
