Free public transport wins hearts

Published on: April 6, 2026 1:52 AM

On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan visited various metro bus stations to review the provision of free public transport facilities introduced to provide relief from rising fuel prices. During the visit, he inspected passenger amenities and interacted with commuters to gather feedback on the initiative.

Passengers expressed satisfaction and appreciation for the free travel facility, paying tribute to Maryam Nawaz Sharif for timely relief measures. Many commuters also requested the addition of more buses to accommodate the increasing demand. Bilal Akbar Khan expressed satisfaction over the implementation of the initiative and directed transport authorities to promptly address any issues faced by passengers in the field.

He remarked that the Chief Minister’s decision to provide free travel has won the hearts of the public and once again demonstrated her commitment as a people-centric leader. He noted that there is an extraordinary rush on public transport systems including the Lahore Metrobus, Speedo Bus Service, Lahore Orange Line Metro Train, and Green Electric Buses, as citizens increasingly prefer public transport over private vehicles.

The initiative, particularly the green electric bus project, is playing a significant role in providing comfortable and free travel facilities to millions of people across Punjab, offering much-needed relief amid high fuel costs.
