Israel strike shatters last-minute peace hopes: Ishaq Dar

Published on: April 7, 2026 11:04 PM

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister said Israel’s strike on Iran disrupted imminent peace talks. He warned the escalation damaged diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions. The situation affects Middle East stability and ongoing mediation led by Pakistan.

Speaking in the Senate, Ishaq Dar said Pakistan was optimistic before the incident. However, he noted the situation changed when Israel launched a strike on Iran. Consequently, Iran targeted oil installations in Saudi Arabia’s Jubail city. This sequence of events significantly disrupted the peace process.

Dar stated that Pakistan actively pursued diplomacy to reduce tensions. He added that Pakistan openly condemned the attack on Iran. Moreover, he revealed he contacted Iran’s foreign minister from Madinah to convey Pakistan’s position. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace through dialogue.

Furthermore, Pakistan initiated contacts with key regional countries to facilitate a ceasefire. Both sides agreed to Pakistan’s mediation and showed willingness for talks in Islamabad. Dar clarified Pakistan seeks no credit but aims to restore peace. He also acknowledged efforts by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

Additionally, Dar shared that Pakistan conveyed proposals between the United States and Iran. These included 15 points from the US and five proposals from Iran. This exchange created momentum toward a possible ceasefire. He also noted consultations with China and appreciation from the United Nations leadership.
