‘Dune 3’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set for holiday box office clash

Dune 3 And Avengers Doomsday Set For Box Office Clash | SAMAA TV

HOLLYWOOD: The upcoming releases of Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday are gearing up for a high-stakes showdown at the holiday box office, with Warner Bros. taking a bold step by launching IMAX 70mm ticket sales months in advance.

By opening pre-sales so early, Dune 3 has effectively locked premium-format screens, signaling that its December 18 release date will not be shifted. This move has generated a frenzy among fans, with select theaters selling out within minutes and resale prices soaring near $1,000. Limited-edition filmstrips tied to early purchases have further fueled collector interest.

IMAX exclusivity has long been central to the Dune brand’s success, and Warner Bros. appears determined to maintain its dominance. The pre-sale strategy ensures the sci-fi epic secures both a cultural and financial foothold before its premiere.

Meanwhile, Marvel faces a strategic dilemma with Avengers: Doomsday. Sticking to the same December 18 release date sets the stage for a direct clash with Dune: Part Three, one of the most anticipated box office battles in years. Moving the release earlier could be perceived as conceding ground, potentially diminishing the Avengers brand’s aura of invincibility.

With Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Doctor Doom and the Russo Brothers returning as directors, Avengers: Doomsday possesses significant star power and global draw. Yet Dune: Part Three has carved out a prestige niche, leveraging IMAX to ensure it won’t be overshadowed.
