JD Vance warns Iran ahead of Islamabad talks negotiations

Published on: April 10, 2026 6:48 PM

US Vice President JD Vance has warned Iran ahead of high-level negotiations in Islamabad, saying Washington will not respond positively if Tehran fails to act in good faith. He said the US delegation expects serious engagement during the talks. The remarks set a firm tone before the diplomatic meeting.

Vance said he is travelling to Pakistan under guidelines set by President Donald Trump. He expressed cautious optimism that discussions with Iran could still be constructive. However, he stressed that outcomes depend on Iran’s approach to negotiations.

He said the United States is ready to move forward if Iranian leadership engages sincerely. However, he warned that attempts at what he called “maneuvering” would not be received positively. His comments underscored Washington’s conditional approach to dialogue.

The negotiations are scheduled to take place in Islamabad under Pakistan’s mediation. The US delegation includes senior officials, while Iran is sending top political and diplomatic representatives. The talks aim to address ongoing regional tensions and ceasefire concerns.

Officials say the Islamabad meeting is part of broader diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region. Both sides are expected to present their positions amid heightened international attention. Pakistan is hosting the dialogue as a facilitator of the peace process.
