Trump says US-Iran talks soon, Pakistan likely

Published on: April 14, 2026 8:52 PM

US President Donald Trump said talks between Washington and Tehran could resume within two days, with Pakistan emerging as the preferred venue. The statement signals renewed diplomatic momentum in efforts to ease tensions. The development affects regional stability and global geopolitical dynamics.

Trump said the United States is more inclined to return to Pakistan for the next round of talks. He praised Pakistan’s leadership, particularly the role of its military leadership, in facilitating dialogue. His remarks reflect growing confidence in Pakistan’s mediation efforts.

The statement follows recent high-level talks held in Islamabad, where US and Iranian delegations met over the weekend. The discussions marked the most significant engagement between the two countries in decades. Although no agreement was reached, both sides avoided a breakdown.

Officials said Pakistan remains in contact with both countries to finalize the timing of the next round. Sources indicated that Iran has shown openness to continuing dialogue. Mediators are working to bring both sides back to the negotiating table quickly.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said efforts are ongoing to sustain and extend the current ceasefire. He told the federal cabinet that unresolved issues are being actively addressed. Diplomats hope the next round of talks could lead to a more lasting agreement.
