Trump thanks PM, military leadership of Pakistan

Published on: April 17, 2026 8:06 PM

U.S. President Donald Trump has thanked Pakistan for its role in regional diplomacy, including efforts linked to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. His remarks were shared on his social media platform Truth Social. The statement is significant as it highlights Pakistan’s involvement in ongoing peace efforts.

Trump praised Pakistan’s leadership, specifically mentioning Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the country’s military leadership. Shehbaz Sharif was acknowledged for his role in diplomatic engagement. Moreover, Trump described both leaders as “great personalities” in his post.

He also expressed gratitude to other regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. Trump said these nations contributed to efforts aimed at supporting stability and dialogue. Additionally, he highlighted their cooperation in recent diplomatic developments.

The remarks come after Iran announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following a ceasefire arrangement. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed the move on social media. Furthermore, the decision has eased tensions in global shipping routes.

Analysts say the statement reflects growing international recognition of mediation efforts in the region. However, they caution that the situation remains sensitive and dependent on ongoing diplomatic engagement. The coming days will determine whether the ceasefire leads to longer-term stability.
