Punjab enforces online attendance system in government schools

Published on: April 19, 2026 3:55 PM

Punjab has introduced a mandatory online attendance system in all government schools, requiring both students and teachers to mark their presence digitally through the official School Information System. The decision aims to improve transparency and ensure accurate record-keeping across the province’s public education sector.

Under the new directive, authorities will mark individuals absent if they fail to register attendance through the digital system. Officials have instructed school administrations to strictly follow the guidelines and ensure that all attendance entries are updated without delay or error.

Furthermore, education officials have warned that schools failing to maintain regular updates on the system will face disciplinary action. District education CEOs have been directed to monitor compliance closely and ensure that all data submission requirements are fully met by every institution.

At the same time, the education secretary has expressed concern over delays in uploading student admissions and attendance records. He stressed that timely and accurate data entry is essential for effective monitoring, planning, and overall improvement of the education system.

Authorities have set April 20, 2026, as the final deadline for updating all pending records in the system. After this date, incomplete or inaccurate submissions may result in action under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline, and Accountability Act, reinforcing strict compliance measures.

In addition, monitoring teams will conduct surprise inspections across schools to verify data accuracy and system usage. As a result, head teachers will be held responsible for any inconsistencies, while the reform is expected to strengthen digital governance in the education sector.
