Israeli strikes kill 2 in southern Lebanon

Published on: April 22, 2026 10:56 PM

Two people were killed by Israeli army fire in southern Lebanon, according to military and local reports. The incident occurred amid ongoing allegations of ceasefire violations in the region. The development further heightens tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border.

The Israeli military said its forces opened fire on two individuals who crossed what it described as a “forward defense line” in the Saluki area of Tyre. It claimed the men were armed and posed an immediate threat to its troops. The army said aircraft were also involved in the operation.

Despite a recently announced ceasefire, Israeli forces continue to maintain positions in southern Lebanon. Military sources say the deployment extends several kilometres into Lebanese territory, covering multiple villages. Lebanese residents have reportedly been prevented from returning to their homes in affected areas.

Lebanese media reported additional incidents of violence in eastern and southern regions, including deaths, injuries, and destruction of infrastructure. Homes and public buildings have also been demolished during ongoing military activity. These developments have added pressure on the fragile ceasefire arrangement.

Meanwhile, cross-border exchanges have continued, with Hezbollah claiming retaliatory actions against Israeli positions. Both sides are expected to continue preliminary peace talks in Washington aimed at reducing tensions and reaching a longer-term agreement.
