Man robbed of digital currency in Karachi abduction

Published on: April 24, 2026 10:46 AM

A man in Karachi was reportedly abducted and robbed of thousands of dollars in digital currency in a troubling incident near the city’s airport, raising concerns over rising cyber-enabled crimes.

According to the victim’s father, the incident occurred on Wednesday night when his son left home for a trip to Lahore. While travelling in an online taxi, the driver stopped at a petrol station near the airport. At that point, four armed suspects arrived in a double-cabin vehicle and forcibly took the victim into their car at gunpoint.

The suspects allegedly held the victim captive for over an hour. During this time, they accessed his digital financial accounts and transferred approximately $8,600. The victim was also deprived of personal belongings, including his mobile phone, laptop, and other valuables.

Family members stated that the victim was subjected to physical assault before being abandoned in the Korangi area. The attackers fled the scene, leaving him injured but alive.

The case highlights growing risks associated with digital assets and the vulnerability of individuals carrying sensitive financial information. While authorities have frequently warned about cybercrime, this incident reflects a combination of physical and digital exploitation.

The victim’s father has expressed frustration over the response from law enforcement, claiming that the Sindh Police have yet to formally register their complaint at the airport police station.

Police officials have not yet issued an official statement regarding the case or confirmed whether an investigation has been initiated. Incidents like this underscore the need for stronger coordination between law enforcement agencies and financial institutions to address evolving criminal tactics.

Authorities are expected to take notice of the case as concerns over public safety and digital security continue to grow in the metropolitan city.
