Published on: April 24, 2026 11:15 AM

Security forces carried out a major intelligence-based operation in Khyber District, resulting in the killing of 22 militants during a coordinated action conducted earlier this week, according to the military’s media wing.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the operation was launched on April 21 following confirmed intelligence regarding the presence of armed militants in the area. A fierce exchange of fire took place between security forces and the suspects during the raid.

According to ISPR, the militants opened indiscriminate fire in an attempt to evade capture, which led to a chaotic situation in the area. Tragically, a 10-year-old child was killed after coming under fire during the encounter.

Officials said the group was involved in multiple terrorist activities in the region and had been under surveillance prior to the operation. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the site, further confirming their involvement in militant operations.

The statement added that the area has been cordoned off, and a search and clearance operation is ongoing to eliminate any remaining threats. Security forces are continuing efforts to ensure that no militants are left hiding in surrounding localities.

Authorities described the operation as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region. Intelligence-based operations have been intensified in recent months to target militant networks operating in remote and mountainous areas.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country and ensuring the safety of civilians, while also acknowledging the unfortunate loss of innocent life during the operation. Further investigations are underway, and security officials say updates will be shared as the situation develops.
