A large-scale mass wedding ceremony brought moments of joy and relief to dozens of families in Gaza, where 150 Palestinian couples were married in a single event despite ongoing hardship in the region. The ceremony took place in the city of Deir el-Balah with support from the United Arab Emirates.

The event was organised under the Emirati humanitarian initiative Al-Faris Al-Shaheem on April 24, 2026. The programme aims to assist financially struggling youth in Gaza by covering wedding expenses and helping them begin married life without the burden of high costs.

Participants expressed happiness and gratitude, noting that marriage had seemed out of reach due to economic challenges and ongoing instability. Many couples said the initiative turned what once felt like a distant dream into reality, offering them not only financial relief but also a sense of dignity and hope.

Organisers stated that such events are designed to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people while providing tangible assistance to those affected by prolonged crisis conditions. They added that the programme also seeks to strengthen social cohesion by supporting family formation in difficult circumstances.

Gaza continues to face significant humanitarian and economic challenges, with many residents struggling to meet basic needs. In this context, initiatives like mass weddings are seen as meaningful interventions that help restore normalcy and uplift community morale.

The ceremony highlighted how collective support efforts can make a difference in people’s lives, even amid adversity. For the newlyweds, the event marked not just the beginning of married life, but also a rare moment of celebration in a region often defined by hardship.
