The Maryam Nawaz has announced the establishment of a 50-acre Punjab Film City in Lahore, aiming to modernize the country’s media and entertainment industry through advanced infrastructure and technology. The project will be developed inside the Nawaz Sharif IT City and is designed as Pakistan’s first fully integrated media production hub. Officials say the initiative will bring film, television, animation, and digital production under one platform to strengthen the creative economy.
According to government plans, the Film City will include modern studios, sound stages, post-production laboratories, and large-scale shooting facilities for local and international productions. The complex will also feature constructed sets and a central artificial lake designed to support diverse filming requirements. Authorities believe these facilities will reduce dependence on foreign studios for visual effects and post-production work while improving local production capacity.

In addition, the project will include convention halls for international events, award shows, and industry gatherings aimed at promoting Pakistan’s media visibility globally. A dedicated media trade hub and specialized film and music schools will also be established to train professionals and support skill development in creative industries. Officials say these additions will help connect education, production, and business within a single ecosystem.
The government estimates that the Film City project will generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities across multiple sectors including film production, animation, and gaming. It is also expected to encourage investment in digital media and support the growth of Pakistan’s entertainment industry. Authorities emphasize that the initiative will serve as a platform where talent, technology, and business can collaborate more effectively.

The broader Nawaz Sharif IT City spans 853 acres and includes multiple development zones such as an IT district, education city, film city, and commercial and residential areas. The first phase will feature a twin-tower IT complex expected to be completed within twelve months, while full development is planned over three years depending on infrastructure progress and land transfer arrangements.
Overall the project carries an estimated cost of around 100 billion rupees and is projected to create up to one million jobs through various economic activities. Authorities also plan to offer special economic zones, tax exemptions, and multiple investment models including joint ventures and REITs to attract domestic and foreign investors. Consequently the initiative is being positioned as a major step toward transforming Punjab into a regional hub for technology and creative industries.
