Blake Lively Justin Baldoni settle It Ends With Us lawsuit

Published on: May 5, 2026 3:25 PM

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have reached a settlement in a high-profile legal dispute linked to the filming of It Ends With Us, bringing an abrupt end to a case that was scheduled for trial this month. Both sides confirmed the agreement in a joint statement, expressing hope that the resolution would provide long-awaited closure after more than a year of intense and public legal confrontation.

The lawsuit began in December 2024 when Lively filed claims against Baldoni, his production company Wayfarer Studios, and others, alleging harassment, defamation, invasion of privacy, and violations of civil rights laws. She argued that the film’s production environment became inappropriate and claimed the defendants later attempted to silence her through a coordinated smear campaign that damaged her reputation and credibility.

However, Baldoni strongly denied the accusations and maintained that he addressed Lively’s concerns promptly during filming, while also defending his decision to hire a crisis management firm after public criticism escalated. In response, he filed a defamation lawsuit against Lively and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, accusing them of trying to harm his professional standing, although the court later dismissed his claims.

Meanwhile, US District Judge Lewis Liman dismissed Lively’s sexual harassment allegations in April, narrowing the legal battle but allowing other aspects, including retaliation claims, to move forward toward trial. Despite these developments, both parties ultimately chose to settle before court proceedings could reveal further details, signaling a strategic decision to avoid prolonged litigation and additional public scrutiny.

The dispute first became widely known after Lively filed a complaint with California’s civil rights authorities, followed by a lawsuit that drew major media attention and sparked broader conversations about workplace conduct in the entertainment industry. Although neither side disclosed the settlement terms, the case had already shaped public perception through court filings and related coverage.

Notably, the film at the center of the controversy performed strongly at the global box office, earning over $351 million despite mixed critical reception, highlighting a contrast between its commercial success and the serious allegations surrounding its production. With the settlement now final, both Lively and Baldoni appear ready to move forward professionally while closing a contentious chapter in their careers.
