Trump says maintaining strong ties with China more beneficial than confrontation

US President Donald Trump has said that maintaining strong and cooperative relations with China is more beneficial than confrontation, adding that ties between the two countries are currently improving.

In an interview with an American television channel, Trump said relations between Washington and Beijing are moving in a positive direction and that both countries already share strong diplomatic and strategic connections.

He emphasised that cooperation, rather than conflict, would serve the interests of both global powers more effectively. “China and the United States are better off working together than fighting,” Trump said, stressing the importance of stable engagement between the two nations.

🇺🇸🇨🇳 Trump on China:

“We’re adversaries, but we have a very good relationship.

When I took over, China was ripping us like nobody’s ever seen.

And now it’s the opposite.

And I think it’s better to get along with China than it is to fight with China.

And they feel the same.” https://t.co/yo5E94vs2i pic.twitter.com/RP54QpU3Cf

Responding to a question on global security issues, the US president claimed that Iran’s military position has been significantly weakened, saying it is “almost finished” militarily. He also stated that China is closely monitoring developments involving Venezuela and Iran.

Trump’s remarks come ahead of his expected visit to China later this month, where he is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. The upcoming visit is expected to focus on key areas of bilateral importance, including trade relations, technology cooperation, and discussions related to ongoing global conflicts, including the situation involving Iran.

Observers see the visit as an important diplomatic engagement aimed at easing tensions and improving communication between the world’s two largest economies.

Relations between the US and China have experienced periods of tension in recent years due to trade disputes, technology restrictions, and geopolitical competition, but both sides have periodically expressed interest in stabilising ties.

Trump reiterated that maintaining open dialogue and cooperation would be essential for global stability, particularly at a time of heightened international uncertainty. Further details regarding the agenda of the visit and possible agreements are expected to be announced ahead of the trip.
