The Provincial Disaster Management Authority PDMA Punjab has warned of a severe heatwave across Punjab from May 7 to May 11. Officials say temperatures are expected to rise significantly across both northern and southern regions of the province. Authorities have issued alerts to district administrations to remain on high alert.
According to forecasts, upper Punjab areas including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala may experience temperatures between 39 and 43 degrees Celsius. Southern districts such as Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan could see temperatures reaching 43 to 47 degrees Celsius. Night-time temperatures are also expected to remain unusually high.

Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed has directed commissioners and deputy commissioners to ensure preparedness. He warned of possible dust storms and hot winds during the heatwave period. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity and stay hydrated. Vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly have been urged to take extra precautions.
Emergency services including Rescue 1122 have been placed on alert to respond to heat-related emergencies. Mobile health teams will also be deployed to handle cases of heatstroke and dehydration. Authorities plan to set up relief camps and ensure availability of clean drinking water and medical aid.

Officials also warned that rising temperatures could accelerate snowmelt in northern areas. Farmers have been advised to take protective measures for crops and livestock. The heatwave is expected to place additional pressure on public health and local infrastructure.
