Babar Azam fitness update before Test

Published on: May 8, 2026 7:24 PM

Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam’s injury is not considered serious, according to team sources. He was ruled out of the first Test against Bangladesh as a precaution after experiencing knee discomfort during a practice session. Medical staff carried out an MRI scan to assess the issue.

Sources said Babar felt pain in his left knee during a training session on Wednesday. Following the complaint, team management decided to rest him to avoid any risk of aggravation. Officials stressed that the decision was precautionary rather than performance-related.

Despite the injury scare, Babar Azam has resumed practice sessions and is reportedly training normally. Team insiders confirmed that his recovery is progressing well. He is expected to be fully fit ahead of the second Test match.

The team management clarified that Babar did not request rest himself. Instead, the decision was taken collectively to prioritize long-term fitness and workload management. This approach is aimed at ensuring his availability for the remainder of the series.
