Trump says Pakistan advised against Iran strikes

Published on: May 8, 2026 8:12 PM

US President Donald Trump said Pakistan advised the United States not to carry out military action against Iran during ongoing negotiations. He made the remarks amid escalating tensions and reported clashes between US and Iranian forces near the Strait of Hormuz. The statement highlights Pakistan’s reported diplomatic role in efforts to de-escalate the crisis.

Trump said Pakistan’s leadership, including its prime minister and military chief, had urged restraint during talks aimed at ending the conflict. He added that the request came while discussions with Iran were still underway. According to him, Washington had been considering its response in coordination with diplomatic efforts.

The US president also said a ceasefire between the United States and Iran remains in place despite recent exchanges of fire. He claimed Iranian forces had targeted US naval vessels, while US forces responded with strikes on Iranian positions. However, Iran has accused Washington of initiating the latest escalation.

Meanwhile, military tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have raised concerns over regional stability and global energy routes. Both sides have reported attacks and counterattacks involving naval and coastal targets. The situation has put renewed pressure on an already fragile ceasefire arrangement.

Earlier reports indicated that the ceasefire was established following weeks of US-Israeli strikes on Iran. Since then, intermittent clashes have continued despite ongoing diplomatic contacts. Analysts warn that continued escalation could further disrupt regional security and global oil supplies.
