According to officials and media reports, the incident took place near the inter-provincial area between Jand and Khushal Garh Bridge, where a suspicious individual believed to be a militant was moving through agricultural fields.

Liaqat reportedly stopped the suspect and questioned him about his identity. During the interaction, the individual panicked and detonated a suicide explosive device. As a result, Liaqat was martyred on the spot, while the attacker was also killed in the blast.

Maryam Nawaz expressed deep condolences and sympathy with the family of the martyr, stating that his sacrifice would be remembered with great respect. She said the bravery shown by Liaqat reflected the resilience and determination of ordinary citizens in the face of terrorism.

The Chief Minister further reiterated her government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Punjab’s residents, adding that all possible measures would be taken to strengthen law enforcement and prevent such incidents in the future.

Security officials described the incident as a major tragedy that could have resulted in a far more serious attack had the suspect reached the targeted location.
