Gang selling sensitive personal, security-related data to foreign agencies arrested in Punjab

Published on: May 22, 2026 3:15 PM

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has arrested a gang in southern Punjab accused of selling sensitive personal and security-related data of citizens and important personalities to foreign agencies.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, NCCIA Director General Syed Khurram Ali said the group was involved in illegally obtaining and selling confidential information for small amounts of money.

According to officials, four suspects have so far been taken into custody in connection with the case. Investigators revealed that individuals linked to various institutions were allegedly helping facilitate the data leaks by providing access to sensitive records and databases.

The NCCIA chief said some of the leaked information related to national security and the personal details of important individuals, raising serious concerns over data protection and institutional oversight.

Khurram Ali stated that authorities are following a “zero tolerance” policy regarding data leaks and the illegal sale of personal information. He added that all relevant institutions are being informed to take strict action against employees found involved in sharing confidential data.

Officials also disclosed that special committees have been established in coordination with the State Bank of Pakistan in Karachi to investigate data breaches involving banking and identity-related information. According to the NCCIA, several criminal networks involved in leaking sensitive financial and personal data have already been identified.

The agency said many of the leaks were traced back to individuals who had authorised access to official databases and misused their positions for personal gain.

Khurram Ali also stressed the importance of public awareness regarding cybercrime and online data protection, urging citizens to remain cautious while sharing personal information online.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are continuing and further arrests, including possible action against government officials allegedly involved in the network, are expected in the coming days.
