Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held detailed talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York, where both leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation, regional developments and global diplomatic coordination. The meeting highlighted the long-standing strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, while both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, stability and stronger cooperation on regional and international matters through continued diplomatic engagement.

During the discussions, the two leaders exchanged views on recent regional tensions and Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting dialogue, stability and peaceful conflict resolution across the region. Wang Yi appreciated Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role and expressed China’s continued support for initiatives designed to encourage peace, mutual understanding and regional cooperation through political and diplomatic channels instead of confrontation.

Meanwhile, Ishaq Dar attended the United Nations Security Council Open Debate held under China’s presidency on 26 May, focusing on maintaining international peace and strengthening the UN-centred global system. He also participated in the Group of Friends on Global Governance meeting chaired by Wang Yi on 28 May, where leaders discussed reforms in global governance and collective responses to international challenges affecting multiple regions.

Both countries also reflected on the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, describing the milestone as a symbol of deep-rooted friendship and strategic trust. The leaders expressed satisfaction over growing cooperation across political, economic and strategic sectors, while noting that high-level exchanges and coordinated diplomatic engagements had further strengthened ties between Islamabad and Beijing during the anniversary celebrations.

In addition, the meeting reviewed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Hangzhou and Beijing from 23 to 26 May 2026, where economic cooperation and CPEC development remained major discussion points. Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening institutional coordination, expanding development partnerships and maintaining active consultation platforms to ensure continued progress on infrastructure, trade and long-term economic connectivity projects.

Furthermore, Pakistan reiterated its firm commitment to the One-China principle, while China reaffirmed support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and economic development priorities during ongoing stabilisation efforts. The two foreign ministers also agreed to deepen strategic communication, enhance cooperation on multilateral platforms and continue promoting a rules-based international order based on mutual respect and shared global interests.
