The Foreign Office reiterated Pakistan’s position that the Jammu and Kashmir issue remains an internationally recognised dispute and continues to be on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council. According to the statement, a lasting resolution of the dispute should be achieved through the implementation of relevant UN resolutions and in line with the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan maintained that India’s criticism of the Gilgit-Baltistan elections could not alter the historical and legal dimensions of the Kashmir dispute. The statement added that attempts to challenge the region’s political processes would not affect Pakistan’s position on the issue.
The Foreign Office also urged India to reverse measures introduced in Indian-administered Kashmir after August 5, 2019, which Pakistan considers unilateral and inconsistent with international obligations. Islamabad further called for the repeal of what it described as restrictive laws and demanded greater access for international observers, humanitarian organisations and foreign media to the disputed territory.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s diplomatic stance, the statement said the country remained committed to supporting the right of the Kashmiri people to determine their future in accordance with international resolutions.
