Pakistan tells un Kashmir dispute remains unresolved integral issue

Published on: June 7, 2026 5:03 PM

Pakistan has told the United Nations General Assembly that Jammu and Kashmir is not an integral part of India and remains an internationally recognized dispute. The statement came during a diplomatic exchange at the UN, where both countries presented opposing positions on the long-standing issue.

During the session, Pakistan exercised its right of reply after India reiterated its claim over Kashmir. Pakistani diplomat Gul Qaiser Sarwani firmly rejected the assertion and stated that Kashmir “never was, neither is, nor will ever be” part of India under historical and legal grounds.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council. He argued that no political narrative or interpretation can change the legal status of the territory under international resolutions.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, highlighted that the Security Council continues to address long-standing disputes, including Kashmir and Palestine. He noted that these issues remain central to regional and global peace discussions.

In addition, the Pakistani envoy said that lasting peace in South Asia depends on a fair resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He also pointed out that the issue has repeatedly appeared in Security Council discussions and reports.

Overall, Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to multilateral diplomacy and called for stronger international mechanisms to resolve conflicts peacefully. It also reiterated support for self-determination in Kashmir and Palestine, linking both disputes to broader global peace and security concerns.
