Regional tensions impact economy: Finance minister

Published on: June 10, 2026 11:42 PM

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said that the ongoing Middle East situation has affected Pakistan’s economy. He said detailed economic facts will be presented in the upcoming economic survey. The remarks come as policymakers assess fiscal pressure and affect economic planning and public expectations.

Speaking in the Senate, the finance minister said global developments have influenced economic conditions across countries. He added that Pakistan is also feeling the impact of regional instability. Moreover, he said the government remains focused on stabilising fiscal indicators despite external shocks.

Aurangzeb said the economic survey will provide a clearer picture of the country’s financial position. He noted that several key facts will be shared publicly in the coming days. Furthermore, he said more opportunities will arise for detailed economic briefing and transparency.

The minister said the government initially provided Rs129 billion in subsidies during the first three weeks. However, he said the subsidy approach faced criticism, leading to a shift toward targeted support. Additionally, he said the revised strategy aims to improve efficiency and reduce fiscal burden.

Meanwhile, he thanked provincial governments for their cooperation in managing economic challenges. He said targeted subsidies are still being implemented across sectors. Still, he warned that regional tensions could continue to affect the economy into the next fiscal year.
