Polish President Karol Nawrocki will discuss the possibility of permanent US military bases in Poland during a visit to Washington. The talks matter because they could reshape NATO’s eastern security posture amid tensions with Russia. Poland, the United States, and regional allies are directly affected by the discussions.
A senior aide said Nawrocki will meet US President Donald Trump during the visit this weekend. The agenda includes security cooperation, economic ties, and energy relations. Officials said Poland’s top priority is strengthening long-term US military presence. The meeting follows ongoing consultations between defence officials of both countries.
The Polish side is expected to formally raise the proposal for permanent US bases. Warsaw has long sought deeper security guarantees from Washington. The move reflects concerns about regional stability and Russia’s military activity. US officials have not confirmed any final decision on the proposal.

The visit also includes participation in a major White House event marking the 250th anniversary of US independence. Nawrocki is expected to attend meetings with members of the Polish-American community. Both leaders are also expected to exchange symbolic gifts during the trip. Officials described relations between the two presidents as strong and cooperative.
Meanwhile, defence cooperation between Poland and the United States continues to expand. Washington recently signalled additional troop deployments to Poland. Both governments have reiterated commitment to NATO defence obligations. Further announcements on long-term force positioning may follow upcoming talks.
