Green Climate Fund approves $27.5 million regional programme

Published on: June 12, 2026 8:09 AM

The Green Climate Fund has approved the G2F regional programme with an allocation of US$27.5 million, according to the Economic Survey 2025-26.

The survey highlighted the approval as part of country’s efforts to leverage international climate finance for resilience-building and climate adaptation initiatives.

Likewise, the Climate and Disaster Resilience Enhancement Programme (CDREP) Subprogramme-II, supported by the Asian Development Bank, is under implementation with financing of US$500 million.

The survey stated that the programme aims to strengthen institutional and financial preparedness for disasters, improve disaster planning and response mechanisms, and operationalize a disaster risk financing framework.

Twenty-four policy actions across eleven government entities are being implemented under the programme.

Green University, startup challenge planned to promote green skills

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination is advancing plans to establish a Green University in Pakistan and organize a Green Startup Innovation Challenge to promote green skills and climate entrepreneurship, according to the Economic Survey 2025-26.

The university would help develop climate-resilient human capital, while the startup challenge would support innovative green business solutions and encourage youth participation in climate action.

Similarly, Pakistan has initiated work on a comprehensive Glacier Preservation and Resilience Strategy following completion of the GLOF-II project in December 2025.

Pakistan hosts more than 13,000 glaciers and that rising temperatures are accelerating glacier retreat, increasing risks associated with glacier lake outburst floods and water security.
