All of us are dead season 2 delayed until 2027

Published on: June 12, 2026 12:00 PM

By 2027 then?” — Fans divided as All of Us Are Dead Season 2 reportedly adds new cast with filming set to begin this July

Netflix’s popular Korean zombie drama “All of Us Are Dead” is set to face an unusually long production gap, with its second season now expected to release in 2027 at the earliest, marking a five-year delay since its debut season captivated global audiences.

The series, which premiered to widespread acclaim, was officially renewed in June 2022, just months after its initial release. However, despite early confirmation, production progress has been slow. Filming for the second season reportedly only began in July 2025, more than three years after the renewal announcement, contributing to the extended hiatus.

The delay is considered highly unusual for the South Korean television industry, which is known for relatively fast production cycles compared to Western streaming formats. Popular global hits such as “Squid Game” returned within three years, highlighting the scale of the delay for “All of Us Are Dead.”

The first season of the show, based on a webtoon, followed a group of high school students trapped during a sudden zombie outbreak and ended on several unresolved storylines, leaving viewers eager for continuation.

While fans had anticipated a possible 2026 release, the series was notably absent from Netflix’s upcoming K-drama lineup, further confirming expectations of a later return.

Industry observers suggest that the extended production timeline may allow for improved visual effects, more refined storytelling, and expanded world-building. The upcoming season is expected to shift its setting beyond the confined school environment and explore broader locations in Seoul.

The storyline is also expected to further develop the concept of “halfbies,” hybrid human-zombie characters introduced in the first season, while continuing the journeys of surviving characters as they adapt to life after the outbreak.

Despite frustration among fans over the long wait, anticipation remains strong, with expectations that the expanded narrative and higher production values could help the series regain global popularity upon its return.
