Govt restores speed limits on motorways, highways

Published on: June 22, 2026 11:57 AM

The government has withdrawn its earlier decision regarding the temporary reduction in speed limits on motorways and national highways and restored the previous speed limits for all categories of vehicles.

According to a Motorway Police spokesperson, the speed limit for cars and Light Transport Vehicles (LTVs) on motorways had been restored to 120 kilometers per hour.

Similarly, the speed limit for Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) and Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs) on motorways had been reinstated to 110 kilometers per hour, the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson further said that speed limits for cars, LTVs, PSVs and HTVs on national highways had also been restored in accordance with the previously prescribed rates. The NHMP urged motorists to continue observing traffic laws and drive responsibly to ensure road safety for all road users.

The motorway police reiterated that compliance with speed regulations, lane discipline and safe driving practices remained essential for preventing accidents and ensuring smooth traffic flow across the country’s road network.
