Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has increased the free baggage allowance for passengers traveling between Pakistan and China, state media reported on Sunday, as the airline seeks to improve services on its Beijing route.
PIA will resume direct flights between Islamabad and Beijing on July 3 after suspending services in April due to a sharp rise in jet fuel prices amid the Middle East conflict.
Under the revised policy, the free baggage allowance has been increased to 50kg from 40kg for economy class passengers and to 60kg from 50kg for executive economy passengers.
“The airline said the move aims to offer one of the most competitive baggage provisions in the market, providing greater convenience and value to travelers, according to official sources,” the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) said in a report.
The report added that PIA’s increase in free baggage allowance is part of its effort to improve affordability, comfort, and customer experience.
According to the airline, the improvements in PIA services aim to better serve students, business travelers, families, and tourists, while also supporting the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China.
The report said the airline’s partnerships with Air China and Shenzhen Airlines strengthened air connectivity by offering smoother connections and competitive fares, enabling passengers from 25 cities across China to travel to Islamabad via Beijing.
PIA had also suspended and reduced flights to Kuala Lumpur, and several Middle Eastern destinations earlier this year amid the US-Iran conflict.
