ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to visit Iran on Friday for high-level meetings with the Iranian leadership, with discussions expected to focus on bilateral relations, regional developments and cooperation on issues affecting the Muslim world.
According to official sources, the prime minister will meet senior Iranian leaders during the visit to review Pakistan-Iran relations and explore ways to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The two sides are also expected to exchange views on regional peace, security and broader geopolitical developments.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz will convey Pakistan’s condolences and solidarity with the people and leadership of Iran following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Islamabad has previously expressed sympathy over the loss and reiterated its commitment to maintaining close ties with Tehran.
The visit follows a period of heightened tensions in the Middle East, during which Pakistan consistently called for restraint, dialogue and a peaceful resolution of disputes. Pakistani officials have maintained regular diplomatic contacts with regional partners in support of efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting stability.
Officials said the discussions are also expected to cover expanding economic cooperation, enhancing trade, improving border coordination and strengthening collaboration on regional and international issues. Both countries have expressed interest in further developing their longstanding bilateral relationship through continued diplomatic engagement.
Pakistan and Iran share a long border and cooperate in several sectors, including trade, energy and security. Analysts believe the visit provides an opportunity for both governments to reaffirm their commitment to constructive dialogue and closer cooperation amid evolving regional dynamics.
Following his engagements in Tehran, Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to continue his regional diplomatic outreach with a visit to Türkiye, where he is scheduled to participate in official meetings and address a business conference.
The Iran visit reflects Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic engagement with neighbouring countries and its stated policy of supporting regional peace, stability and stronger bilateral partnerships through dialogue and cooperation.
