Zardari starts historic four-day Kyrgyzstan trip

Published on: July 6, 2026 4:17 PM

President Asif Ali Zardari will depart Monday for a four-day official visit to Kyrgyzstan at President Sadyr Zhaparov’s invitation. The visit marks the first trip by a Pakistani head of state to the Central Asian country in 21 years. Officials say the visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand engagement across multiple sectors.

Leading a high-level delegation, President Zardari will hold one-on-one talks with President Zhaparov before participating in delegation-level discussions. The leaders will review the full spectrum of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations and exchange views on regional and international developments. President Zardari is also scheduled to receive the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament during the visit.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides will discuss expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, mining, agriculture, textiles, the halal industry, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, the digital economy, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. The ministry described the visit as a historic milestone that reflects the growing momentum in high-level engagement between the two countries.

The visit follows President Zhaparov’s trip to Pakistan in December 2025, when both countries agreed to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and regional connectivity. Islamabad and Bishkek also set a target of increasing bilateral trade to $200 million by 2027-28. Several agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed to promote cooperation across economic and development sectors.

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan also reaffirmed support for the CASA-1000 electricity project and the Quadrilateral Traffic in Transit Agreement road corridor. During previous talks, both sides stressed the importance of regional peace and stability. They also agreed that Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities should take concrete action against militant groups operating from Afghan territory.
