Ghalibaf rejects Israel, backs resistance groups

Published on: July 6, 2026 9:35 PM

Iranian Parliament Speaker and senior negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Iran will never recognise Israel and will continue supporting Muslims and regional resistance groups through political and military means. Speaking during meetings in Tehran, he said major differences with the United States remain despite a recently signed memorandum of understanding. His remarks reaffirmed Iran’s longstanding position on Israel and regional alliances.

During talks with Hamas Leadership Council chief Mohammad Darwish, Ghalibaf described implementation of the memorandum as difficult but possible. He said Iran would continue following the guidance of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei while supporting what Tehran calls the “axis of resistance” through diplomacy and, if necessary, missile capabilities.

Ghalibaf also said Muslim countries have realised that cooperation with the United States and Israel does not guarantee their security. He argued that Iran would continue backing regional partners while maintaining pressure through both political engagement and military preparedness.

In a separate meeting with Yemeni Houthi Supreme Political Council Vice Chairman Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, Ghalibaf claimed the agreement represented both a political and military setback for the United States. He also said diplomatic achievements depend on maintaining strong military capabilities, warning that any sign of weakness could invite future attacks.

Meeting senior Hezbollah official Mohammad Fneish, Ghalibaf said lasting peace in Lebanon cannot be achieved without Iran’s involvement. He added that Tehran had made Lebanon’s ceasefire and territorial integrity central issues during negotiations surrounding the memorandum.
