Jesy Nelson celebrates daughter’s progress while continuing health campaign

Published on: July 10, 2026 5:46 PM

Jesy Nelson took time to focus on her wellbeing by visiting a gym in Brentwood, Essex, shortly after sharing encouraging news about one of her twin daughters. The singer appeared in good spirits following a meaningful milestone in her family’s journey, as her daughter was seen sitting upright in a wheelchair for the first time since receiving treatment and ongoing care.

Earlier this year, Jesy revealed that her one-year-old twin daughters, Ocean and Story, had been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, a rare condition that affects muscle strength and movement. She explained that the diagnosis came later than hoped, meaning both girls now rely on specialist breathing equipment during the night and feeding tubes as part of their daily care.

Following the positive update about her daughter’s progress, Jesy was photographed heading to the gym with a friend while wearing comfortable workout clothes. She chose a fitted top, cycling shorts, and styled her highlighted hair in plaits. Fans also noticed small skincare spot patches on her forehead during the outing, reflecting her relaxed and natural appearance.

Alongside caring for her daughters, Jesy has continued campaigning for newborn screening for SMA across the National Health Service. She believes earlier testing could help families receive faster diagnoses and begin treatment sooner. Her advocacy has become an important part of her public life since sharing her family’s experience with the rare condition.

Last month, Jesy attended a parliamentary debate focused on expanding newborn SMA screening across England. After the session, she admitted feeling heartbroken and frustrated but pledged to continue raising awareness and pushing for change. Through both her personal story and public campaign, she continues encouraging greater attention to early diagnosis and improved support for families affected by SMA.
