Naqeebullah’s father demands justice for slain son

Published on: January 22, 2018 8:44 PM

KARACHI: Father of Naqeebullah Mehsud on Monday demanded justice for his son’s alleged encounter by former Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar and aide police officers.

Speaking to the media during a tribal assembly of the Mehsud tribe in Sohrab Goth, Naqeebullah’s father Khan Muhammad said that he wants justice for his son, adding that the entire country has been saddened by Naqeebullah’s extra-judicial killing.

He also said that it was Naqeebullah’s wish to enroll his son in the Pakistan Army, while also stating that his son was neither a criminal nor a terrorist.

“It was Naqeebullah’s wish that his son would serve in the Pakistan Army someday. He was not a terrorist or miscreant; he was a kind-hearted person,” Khan Muhammad said.

Pertaining orders from Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal last week on Thursday, Inspector General (IG) Sindh AD Khawaja established a committee consisting of Inspector General Police (IGP) Counter-terrorism Department (CTD) Sanaullah Abbasi, DIG South and East to probe the alleged encounter.

Ex-SSP Rao was summoned by the committee and was later sacked from his post after evidences provided by him related to Naqeebullah’s criminal record and alleged links with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were deemed bogus by the probing unit.

The committee on Sunday ordered Rao Anwar to summon on Monday at 11pm. As of now, the former Malir SSP has refused to present himself before the investigating group.

Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old South Waziristan native, was gunned down in an alleged encounter on January 13 in Shah Latif town.
