No wrong intent in bank account claims, says Shahid Masood

Published on: January 26, 2018 8:03 PM

LAHORE: In the wake of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) refuting claims of main accused in Zainab rape and murder owning several commercial bank accounts on Friday, Journalist Shahid Masood has said that ‘sometimes things are misreported.’

Anchorperson Masood had on Thursday handed over to the Supreme Court the names of a provincial minister from Punjab and his influential friend who were allegedly behind the brutal rape and murder of 7-year-old Zainab in Kasur.

Masood also said that he had provided the details of 37 bank accounts of Imran to the court, adding that majority of these accounts were in foreign currency.

In a latest statement, the anchorperson has said that investigating the case is not his job and that he did not provide the information with any wrong intent.

Earlier today, Masood failed to appear before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing rape and murder of Zainab from Kasur after he was summoned to present evidences regarding possession of bank accounts by accused Imran Ali.

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, while conducting a press conference after issuance of the inquiry report by SBP on Friday, said that the information shared by Masood was ‘baseless’ and that it was a means to create sensationalism.

He also termed Masood’s claims as ‘fake news’ and added that such acts aim to belittle the efforts of the government.
