Published on: January 31, 2018 11:55 PM

LAHORE: Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique has on Wednesday said that decision making by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) regarding control, sanction and regularisation of private housing societies is illegal.

In an official reminder written to the related authorities, Siddique said that exercise of jurisdiction by the LDA for controlling, regularising or sanctioning the private housing societies is illegal and that it goes against the principles of transparency.

Pertaining the issue, the SC advocate urged the authorities to take notice, adding that matters regarding regularisation, approval and sanctioning of private housing societies should be dealt by the local governments under Article 32 & 140-A of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973 & Local Government Ordinance, 1979, 2001 and Local Government Act, 2013.

Siddique also demanding provision of details, information and answer to questions by relevant authorities in view of Article 19-A of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973 read with Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act, 2013.

The advocate further requested that under whose directions, the matter of housing societies has been referred to the NAB excluding the case of LDA City.
