Police detains three in GCU professor murder case

Published on: February 16, 2018 5:14 PM

LAHORE: Police on Friday detained three individuals, including a female student, for interrogation on Monday pertaining murder case of a Government College (GC) University professor.

Authorities said that professor Tanzeem Akbar Cheema had last talked on phone to the female student before the slain was fatally shot.

Tanzeem was shot dead in the provincial capital’s Gulberg area on Wednesday. Initial reports claimed that the professor had been shot by robbers after the slain resisted. Akbar was rushed to a nearby hospital where he breathed his last.

Police authorities, however, suggest that Tanzeem’s murder might be a result of an ongoing family feud and that the authorities will investigate the case on all ends. CCTV footage revealed that the slain conversed with the assailants for some time before they opened fire at him.

CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif also took notice of the case and ordered Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) to present a report on the matter.

A condolence reference was held here at the Government College University (GCU) Lahore on Thursday in memory of slain Associate Professor Dr Tanzeem Akbar.
