Democracy, rule of law the way forward, says Nawaz

Published on: March 23, 2018 6:51 PM

LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday said that democracy, strengthening of the Parliament and rule of law is the way forward.

“Development of Pakistan depends upon the continuation of democracy, sanctity of vote and rule of law. Pakistan emerged on the world map due to the democratic struggle of our forefathers and the power of vote,” Nawaz said in a message on occasion of Pakistan Day.

He also paid tribute to all those ‘who stood up against dictatorship in the country’.

Speaking about the importance of March 23, 1940, Nawaz said that Pakistan Day is an occasion to commemorate the objectives of the Pakistan Resolution and the struggle to achieve them.

“The vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal is being achieved as Pakistan is en route to economic development and is emerging as one of the leading stakeholders on the world map,” the former PM said.

Nawaz also paid tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives in the country’s fight against terrorism. “It is due to the sacrifices of our people that the country is moving towards a peaceful future,” he concluded.
