Shehbaz urges Nisar to stay

Published on: April 2, 2018 3:41 PM

LAHORE:  Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Chaudhry Nisar, who was reportedly having some differences with the party, met Punjab Chief Minister, and PML-N President, Shehbaz Sharif on Monday.

According to reports, in the meeting that lasted 45 minutes, the two leaders discussed party matters and current political situation of the country. Nisar also discussed his reservations with CM.

“You should stay with the party,” the Punjab CM told Nisar in this meeting.

Earlier, Ahsan Iqbal, the interior minister, had said that the issues pertaining to the party were resolved internally. He had said that the future of Chaudhry Nisar would also be decided by the PML-N.

He gave this statement after Nisar said that PML-N had denied him the right to have a different opinion.

Chaudhry Nisar, who has been associated with the party for over thirty years, had made it clear in a statement earlier that he would not stand with the decision, if made, to elect Maryam Nawaz, daughter of ex-Prime Minister, as party president.

It was reported in February that Nawaz had parted ways with Nisar, his longtime associate and decided to not to invite him for the Central Working Committee session.

The move followed Nisar’s public disagreements with the party line following Nawaz’s disqualification last July and public campaigns that followed. However, Nisar did come to the parliament and voted for the party candidate during the Senate elections.
