Khadija stabbing case: SC accepts appeal against acquittal, issues bailable arrest warrants for Hussain

LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday formally accepted an appeal against acquittal, issuing bailable arrest warrants for Shah Hussain.

SC hearing a suo moto notice case pertaining to convicts acquittal in Khadija stabbing case at the Lahore Registry ordered Hussain to submit bonds of Rs 100,000.

Siddiqui had filed an appeal against Hussain’s acquittal.

Hussain was convicted in 2017 for attacking Khadija with a knife in Lahore, stabbing her 23 times.

The convict’s seven year sentence was reduced to two years by the trial court in March.

 Earlier on June 4, Lahore High Court (LHC) had ordered Hussain’s acquittal to  which Khadija had announced to challenge LHC’s verdict in higher court.

Subsequently, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice on the case on June 5 and later also lashed out at Lahore High Court Bar Association that regretted the top judge’s decision of taking notice on Hussain’s acquittal.

During a hearing of the case, the CJP asked Hussain’s father how he run a campaign against the apex court and pass a resolution against it.

“Had something similar happened to the daughter of a lawyer, would your attitude have been the same?” the CJP had asked him
