MQM-P did not take me into confidence over Firdous Shamim’s nomination: Khawaja Izhar

Published on: September 5, 2018 8:52 PM

Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) parliamentarian Khawaja Izhar Ul Hassan denied having knowhow about the selection of opposition leader in the province assembly.

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan has denied having any knowledge about the nomination of next opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly.

Earlier, the Sindh chapter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with the consultation of its allies parties finalised the name of Firdous Shamim Naqvi for the post of leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly.

Izhar claimed that no meeting of MQM’s parliamentary committee was held neither at Bahdarabad office nor anywhere to discuss the name for the opposition leader. “I was not even informed about the nomination,” said the former opposition leader.

He accused that no meeting about parliamentary committee was held neither at Bahdarabad office nor anywhere even he should have been informed if Firdous Shamin Naqvi had been finalized.

He also did sign on the paper where other party MPAs signed to accept the party decision to support Naqvi for opposition leader.

Khawaja Izhar had asked his party not to select Shamim Naqvi as leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly. Sources say he was not happy with Naqvi’s selection because of later’s harsh comments regarding MQM-P.

However, a spokesperson for  MQM-P said that the former opposition leader could not reach the assembly in time, that is why he could not sign the paper.
