Dar reaches accountability court for assets reference case hearing

Published on: October 23, 2017 9:11 AM

ISLAMABAD: The accountability court hearing an assets reference case against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar resumed proceedings today (Monday) in the assets reference case.

This marks Dar’s seventh appearance at the judicial complex at Judge Mohammad Bashir’s Accountability Court.

During the last hearing, the court adjourned proceedings till October 23 due to the absence of Ishaq Dar’s senior counsel, Khawaja Harris.

The Finance Minister’s legal team pleaded before court to adjourn the hearing till October 25 because of Harris’s absence, but the Mohammad  Bashir only adjourned proceedings till October 23.

Two more prosecution witnesses are set to record their statements namely, Abdul Rahman Gondal of Allied Bank and Habib Bank’s Masood Ghani, the aforementioned witnesses were also present during the last hearing but could not get their statements recorded due some reasons.

Up till now the Accountability Court has recorded the statements of Shahid Aziz National Investment Trust , Al Baraka Bank’s Tariq Javed and Istiaq Ali of Bank Alfalah.

Dar is ‘accused’ of owning assets beyond his declared sources of income in the reference filed against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) upon instructions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan as a result of its Panama Case Verdict.
