Nawaz sharif praises parliament’s strong role in Pakistan-India conflict

Published on: May 17, 2025 3:36 PM

Former Prime Minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif praised the Pakistani Parliament for playing a “positive and powerful” role during the recent Pakistan-India conflict. In a meeting with senior party leader Senator Irfan Siddiqui in Lahore, Sharif said that elected representatives had truly reflected the emotions, unity, and resilience of the Pakistani people during a critical moment for the nation.

He highlighted that Parliament not only stood firmly behind the armed forces but also served as a unifying platform that helped the country navigate a tense and dangerous situation. “The voice of Parliament became the voice of the nation,” he said.

Sharif further lauded the professional conduct and courage of the Pakistani armed forces. He stated that the military demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in defending the homeland, adding that Pakistan’s victory in the face of aggression was a blessing. “We bow our heads in gratitude to Allah for granting us success in this tough test,” he remarked.

The former premier also acknowledged the important role played by Pakistani media during the crisis. He said that journalists and news outlets fulfilled their responsibilities with patriotism and maturity, helping inform and unite the public while countering misinformation.

Separately, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif accused India of waging proxy warfare along Pakistan’s western border. He warned that New Delhi would “taste defeat” there as well, just as it had in the recent confrontation. The statements from top Pakistani leaders reflect a sense of national confidence and unity following the escalation.
