DG ISPR appreciates Iran’s role in de-escalating India-Pakistan conflict

Published on: May 17, 2025 5:35 PM

Lt General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of ISPR, praised Iran for promoting peace during rising tensions with India. In an interview with Iran’s news agency IRNA, he thanked Iran for stepping in to help reduce the conflict. He noted that Pakistan values Iran’s support and peaceful efforts, especially after India blamed Pakistan for the Pahalgam attack without evidence.

Tensions had surged following the attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir, with India launching airstrikes in Punjab and Azad Kashmir. In response, Pakistan downed Indian jets and retaliated. During this time, Iran offered to mediate. Gen Chaudhry said Iran’s offer came at the right moment and helped stop the situation from getting worse.

He also warned about outside forces trying to create confusion between friendly countries like Pakistan and Iran. Gen Chaudhry stressed that Pakistan and Iran have deep, historic ties. These efforts to divide them, he said, will not succeed. He emphasized that such peace-loving relationships are key for regional stability.

The DG ISPR also mentioned Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s recent visit to Islamabad. Araghchi met with PM Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Gen Asim Munir. Gen Chaudhry highlighted these meetings as important steps in preventing further conflict between the two nations.

Finally, Gen Chaudhry praised all international efforts, especially Iran’s, in helping calm the region. He confirmed that Pakistan wants peaceful borders and strong cooperation with its neighbors. He said Pakistan and Iran are committed to lasting peace and working together in difficult times.
