Electricity prices reduced by Rs. 2.99 per unit for Karachi consumers

Published on: June 5, 2025 9:57 PM

The electricity price for Karachi has been reduced by Rs. 2.99 per unit, offering much-needed relief to consumers. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued separate notifications regarding monthly electricity price adjustments for different regions. While Karachi benefits from this price cut, electricity prices across the rest of Pakistan have increased by Rs. 0.93 per unit.

According to NEPRA’s notifications, the reduction will be reflected in Karachi consumers’ June electricity bills. This adjustment applies to K-Electric’s monthly price revision for March 2025. Meanwhile, electricity prices in other parts of Pakistan rose due to the April 2025 monthly adjustment. This price increase will affect most consumers outside Karachi.

The reduction in Karachi is expected to provide a financial relief of approximately 4 billion rupees in June bills. On the contrary, consumers outside Karachi will face an additional cost burden estimated at 11 billion rupees due to the price hike. This shows a significant regional difference in electricity pricing.

NEPRA’s monthly adjustments are based on fuel costs, generation expenses, and other economic factors. The authority aims to balance fair pricing with the financial health of power producers. The price relief for Karachi comes amid ongoing challenges in energy supply and increasing costs nationwide.

Overall, Karachi consumers will benefit from a notable cut in electricity rates, helping ease their monthly expenses. However, the price rise in other regions highlights the continuing pressure on Pakistan’s energy sector. NEPRA will continue reviewing and adjusting prices monthly to reflect changing market conditions.
