Ceasefire collapses: Israel reacts to Iranian missile fire

Published on: June 24, 2025 3:07 PM

Israel has launched strong attacks on Iran after accusing it of violating a newly announced ceasefire. Defence Minister Israel Katz said the Israeli army was ordered to strike key regime targets in Tehran. He added that these strikes were a direct response to Iranian missiles reported by Israeli forces. The ceasefire was meant to lower tensions between the two rivals, but fighting has now resumed.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had proposed a phased ceasefire starting on Tuesday. Israel agreed to the plan and confirmed its willingness to stop hostilities. However, Iran did not officially accept the deal. Despite the effort to calm the situation, fresh violence broke out quickly.

Katz blamed Iran for breaking the agreement and endangering peace efforts. He said Iran’s actions left Israel with no choice. “Iran crossed the line. We had to respond forcefully,” he explained in his statement. The Israeli military has not shared full details about the strikes yet.

This marks a serious rise in tensions between Israel and Iran. The international community had hoped the ceasefire would last. But the new fighting threatens to undo diplomatic progress. Both sides now seem to be returning to a more dangerous path.

The situation remains tense as global powers watch closely. Peace talks may now face more delays or even collapse. Meanwhile, the people in the region continue to suffer from the violence.
