Qatar summons Iranian ambassador over missile strike on US base

Published on: June 24, 2025 3:14 PM

Qatar has officially summoned the Iranian ambassador after Iran launched missile attacks on a US military base located in Qatar. The base, Al Udeid Air Base, hosts thousands of American troops and is one of the largest US military facilities in the Gulf. The strike followed a reported US attack on Iranian nuclear sites, which Tehran claims triggered its response.

According to Arab media, the Qatari Foreign Ministry expressed serious concern over the missile attack. It stressed that any military action affecting Qatar’s territory must be avoided. The ministry reminded Iran that such actions risk dragging the Gulf state into broader conflicts.

In defense, Iran stated that its strike was not aimed at Qatar but strictly targeted American forces. A spokesperson from the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the missile launch was an act of self-defense under international law. “This was not against Qatar, our brotherly neighbor,” the statement read. “It was a direct response to US aggression.”

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi also reached out to Qatari officials with a diplomatic message. He emphasized that Iran remains committed to friendly and peaceful ties with Qatar. “We value our neighborly relations and want to keep building on them,” he said.

Fortunately, no casualties or damage were reported at Al Udeid base. However, the incident has added fresh tension to the Gulf region. It places Qatar in a delicate position, balancing close ties with both the US and Iran. Regional leaders and international diplomats are urging restraint on all sides to avoid a wider conflict.
