Missile strike sparks diplomatic call between Iran and Qatar

Published on: June 24, 2025 9:54 PM

DOHA/TEHRAN – After Iran launched a missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar last night, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian made a direct phone call to Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The call came amid rising tensions in the region following recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory.

According to Iranian state media, President Pezeshkian initiated the conversation to explain the background and intention behind the missile strike. He said the attack was a targeted military response to what Iran considers America’s direct and open involvement in an Israeli offensive against Iran earlier this week.

During the call, the Iranian president made it clear that Iran holds no hostility toward Qatar. He emphasized that the strike on the American military installation located in Qatar should not be misinterpreted as an act of aggression against the Qatari state or its people.

President Pezeshkian also conveyed deep appreciation for Qatar’s consistent support and diplomatic neutrality in regional conflicts. He praised the Qatari leadership for maintaining a friendly and brotherly relationship with Iran, especially during critical moments.

He concluded by assuring Emir Tamim that Iran’s military action was strictly defensive, aimed at deterring further aggression, and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peace and cooperation with neighboring nations, including Qatar.
