Iran will honor ceasefire if Israel does, says President Pezeshkian

Published on: June 24, 2025 10:16 PM

TEHRAN – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has announced that Iran is willing to honor the U.S.-brokered ceasefire in the ongoing conflict—but only if Israel also fully abides by its terms.

According to French news agency AFP, President Pezeshkian made the statement during a phone call with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. He emphasized that Iran will not violate the truce unless provoked by Israeli aggression.

A statement published on the official presidential website confirmed that the two leaders discussed the regional situation and the recently declared ceasefire. President Pezeshkian noted that if the “Zionist regime” respects the agreement, Iran will also refrain from further military action.

Despite the ceasefire, Iran’s military remains on high alert. In a separate statement, the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) stressed that Iranian armed forces are fully prepared to respond decisively to any threats or violations by Israel or its allies.

The SNSC highlighted that the unity of the Iranian people and the resilience of the armed forces played a key role during the 12-day strategic war. Their swift and effective response to Israeli aggression—including retaliatory missile strikes such as the one on the U.S. Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar—was carried out under the guidance of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The council concluded by reassuring the Iranian nation that its forces remain ready to respond to any future hostility with “firm and regret-inducing” force, adding that Iran trusts no verbal commitments from the enemy and that “fingers remain on the trigger.”
